Lithuanian film and stage actor Vytautas Paukštė has passed away at the age of 90, Klaipėda Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas posted on his Facebook account on Thursday.
“We have lost Vytautas Paukštė... A stage coryphaeus, a whole epoch, an honorary citizen of the city of Klaipėda, a pride of Klaipėda and the whole of Lithuania, and at the same time a man of indescribable sincerity and warmth, an exceptional personality,” the mayor wrote. “It's an insanely painful loss. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the relatives and to all of us.”
Born in Kaunas in 1932, Paukštė played more than 130 roles during his stage career, and also and appeared in more than 70 film and TV roles, including Feelings (1968, directed by Almantas Grikevičius) and Seventeen Moments of Spring (1973, directed by Tatyana Lioznova).
