Belarus kicks off mobilisation drills

Belarus has begun its mobilisation drills after earlier announcing exercises to test the country’s readiness to transition from peace to war time.

A number of men liable for conscription have been summoned to appear at recruitment offices, UNIAN, a Ukrainian news agency.

“They [Belarus] will conduct training on the mobilisation of those liable for military service," UNIAN quoted Oleg Zhdanov, a prominent Ukrainian analyst.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a cabinet meeting to discuss the preparations for any potential attack from Belarus.

Belarus has not sent its troops into neighbouring Ukraine, but the Kremlin used the territory as one of the staging areas to launch its invasion. Russian jets and missiles have also been launched from Belarus.

Since the February 24 invasion, Belarus has held multiple military drills, including on the borders of Lithuania and Poland.
