Latvia’s media watchdog has banned 80 channels registered in Russia, the country’s public broadcaster LSM reported on Monday.
The move comes after law amendments, banning media channels from operating in Latvia that “threaten the territorial integrity and independence of another country”, according to the LSM.
The law will remain in effect until Russia hands Crimea back to Ukraine and ceases the current hostilities, Latvia’s National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) said.
The media outlets have previously been accessible to viewers in Latvia and include such popular Russian channels as Kino24 and Mir TV.
