BNS 2022.05.05 14:52

The first Lithuanian law enforcement team has arrived in Ukraine to help investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Russian army, Lithuania's Prosecutor General's Office said on Thursday.

The team of 40 people includes representatives of the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office, the police, the Lithuanian Police Forensic Science Centre and the State Forensic Medical Service.

Lithuania's Prosecutor General's Office set up the team after launching a pre-trial investigation into the aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine on March 1.

The team in Ukraine will partake in the investigation, provide expertise, and act as observers. Members of the group will see a periodic rotation.

More than 40 countries have now joined the call to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine. The International Criminal Court in The Hague launched its investigation in March.
