BNS 2022.01.03 16:54

Lithuania is joining the International Energy Agency (IEA) after President Gitanas Nausėda has signed into law the parliament's resolution to ratify the Agreement on an International Energy Programme, the president's office said on Monday.

"Direct participation in the IEA will enable Lithuania to accelerate its efforts to achieve the goals of energy sector transformation and climate-neutral energy, as well as to share its good practises in energy and adopt those of other members," the office quoted Nausėda as saying in a press release.

The IEA works to ensure reliable, competitive and clean energy for its members and beyond, and is the centre of a global energy dialogue that covers the full range of energy issues, according to the statement.

The agency brings together countries such as the US, Japan, the UK, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands and others.
