The Minister of Environment of Lithuania, Valentinas Mazuronis, has been presented with the exact number of wolves registered in Lithuanian forests. 

The Minister of Environment of Lithuania, Valentinas Mazuronis, has been presented with the exact number of wolves registered in Lithuanian forests.

The data indicates that currently more than 200 wolves are living on the territory of Lithuania.

“Finally, we have objective data about the size of the wolf population in Lithuani. I can assure that these figures are the most exact out of all previously calculated. This is because wolves were counted not only in on the territories of state, but also of private forests,” said Minister Mazuronis.

“The results of the population research have been analysed by an expert committee consisting of scientists and foresters. It is also important that the entire process has also been monitored by representatives of NGOs, who did not allow any mistakes to occur,” the Minister explained.

The exact minimum number of the population is 208 wolves. The number of wolves by administrative regions: Alytus – 33; Kaunas – 20; Klaipėda – 10; Marijampolė – 10; Panevėžis – 27; Šiauliai – 32; Tauragė – 23; Telšiai – 10; Utena – 17; Vilnius – 26.
