Due to a case overload, a court in Vilnius has handed over part of the appeals filed by asylum seekers to other administrative courts in the country.

"As the number of cases has increased significantly, the court's 20 judges will not be able to process all asylum seekers' appeals within the set period of time since they also hear cases of other categories," said Jolanta Malinauskiene, president of Vilnius Regional Administrative Court.

Up until now, Vilnius Regional Administrative Court has received around 500 appeals where asylum seekers are appealing the Migration Department's decision not to grant them asylum in Lithuania.

The Regional Administrative Court also has branches in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys.
