Estonian president to visit Lithuania

Estonian President Alar Karis will pay an official visit to Lithuania on Wednesday, the Lithuanian president's office said on Tuesday.

Karis, who took office as Estonia's president on October 11, is scheduled to meet with his Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nausėda.

The two leaders plan to discuss defence, regional security, Nordic-Baltic cooperation, irregular migration, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and measures to tackle its economic consequences.

They will also discuss economic, cultural and energy cooperation, the Three Seas Initiative, the Eastern neighbourhood policy and other issues of mutual and regional interest.

Nausėda and Karis are expected to give a joint news conference after the meeting.

Karis, former director of the Estonian National Museum, was elected president in the country’s parliament on August 31.
