Lithuanian direct investment abroad increased in 2012

Statistics Lithuania and the Bank of Lithuania inform that in 2012, compared to 2011, the Lithuanian investment flow abroad increased to LTL 1.1 billion. 

Statistics Lithuania and the Bank of Lithuania inform that in 2012, compared to 2011, the Lithuanian investment flow abroad increased to LTL 1.1 billion.

In 2012, the Lithuanian direct investment (DI) flow abroad amounted to LTL 1.1 billion. The flow of investment in share capital amounted to LTL 603.2 million, reinvestment flow abroad – LTL 424.4 million, that of investment in other capital – LTL 51 million. In 2011, the DI flow abroad amounted to LTL 137.3 million.

In 2012, Lithuanian investors invested the most in Estonia (LTL 765.2 million), Latvia (LTL 133.6 million), and the Netherlands (LTL 112.7 million). The largest decrease in Lithuanian investment was observed in Ukraine (minus LTL 116.9 million).

The largest investment abroad was made by Lithuanian investors in professional, scientific and technical activities (LTL 944.2 million), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (LTL 150.9 million), and manufacturing (LTL 112.2 million).

As of 31 December 2012, Lithuanian cumulative DI abroad amounted to LTL 6.6 billion (EUR 1.9 billion). Over the year, it increased by LTL 1 billion, or 18.4 per cent.

According to 31 December 2012 data, the largest investment was made in the Netherlands – LTL 1.6 billion (25.1 per cent of the total Lithuanian DI abroad), Estonia – LTL 971.9 million (14.8 per cent), Latvia – LTL 968.7 million (14.7 per cent), Cyprus – LTL 501.3 million (7.6 per cent), and Poland – LTL 483.8 million (7.4 per cent).

The largest investment abroad was made by Lithuanian enterprises in professional, scientific and technical activities – LTL 2.6 billion (39.7 per cent of the total Lithuanian DI investment abroad), manufacturing – LTL 908.2 million (13.8 per cent), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – LTL 806.2 million (12.3 per cent), financial and insurance activities – LTL 730.4 million (11.1 per cent).

In manufacturing, the largest investment was made in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (33.9 per cent of the total Lithuanian DI in manufacturing abroad), chemicals and chemical products (31.6 per cent), rubber and plastic products (12.2 per cent), food products, beverages and tobacco (11.6 per cent).
