More than half of the 148 new cases of Delta coronavirus variant detected in Lithuania are local, the country's National Public Health Centre (NVSC) said on Thursday.
According to the centre, 56 percent of the people who have tested positive for this variant say they had not travelled abroad and had no contact with people who returned from abroad.
Some 47 cases are imported and another 17 are linked to imported cases. Meanwhile, the majority of cases, 44, were registered in Vilnius and Klaipėda counties.
Specialists say that vaccines, based on the latest scientific evidence, protect from coronavirus variants and have urged people to get vaccinated.
