As Vilnius gears up for a major revamp of the area around the railway and bus stations, the city has called an international competition for architects to implement the so-called Vilnius Connect project.
The project is a cooperation between the city and Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways), the state-owned railway company.
The participants will be expected to produce a railway station project, propose an idea for public transport infrastructure and an urban centre, as well as shape a square in the station area, the municipality said.
Mantas Bartuška, the CEO of Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, says the goal is to build quality spaces according to the best examples in Western Europe.
Applications for the competition are accepted until the end of May and the winner will be announced in June.
