As major floods are expected this spring in Lithuania, the country's Interior Ministry on Tuesday held a meeting with rescue services and local authorities of most vulnerable places.
“This year, it is important for us to do all preparations in time. We are aware that municipalities face smaller or bigger spring floods but our goal is to ensure that all services are prepared,” Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė was quoted in a statement.
According to the ministry, the country's Fire and rescue Department informed that major floods are expected this year.
The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service says snow has already started melting across the country, and water levels are expected to start rising in the first week of March, reaching peak levels in the middle of next month.
