People across Lithuania have been going all out building igloos, snow forts as well as gigantic snowmen and animal sculptures.

Among the many quirky creations, a household in Markučiai, a district of Vilnius, built the key characters from Star Wars. In Zujūnai near Vilnius, a several metre high snowman has appeared instead.

“The octopus and the shark symbolises sea creatures. The Red Sea is our favourite, so we decided to make [sea-themed] sculptures to not get too far [from the sea],” Vaidas Petrėnas, who built some of the more elaborate creations, told LRT TV.

Vaidotas Bertašius in Kaunas, meanwhile, spent six hours together with his son creating an igloo.

Photographers from Travel Lithuania, the country’s tourism promotion agency, have also captured a bear, an octopus, as well as a shark all made from snow.

Since the beginning of the week, heavy snowfall has blanketed Lithuania. The eastern and southeastern regions were the worst hit parts of the country.
