Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has named “faith and family” as being the values he shared with his US counterpart, Joe Biden.
“I would like to point out several things that highlighted the values of the new US president, such as faith and family,” Nausėda said on Thursday.
“The new president demonstrated [... ] that the American society and he himself base his achievements and his future on these two very important things, which are often put in doubt in the modern world.” according to the Lithuanian president.
“New US President Biden did not leave any such doubts and I am very happy with that as I share the same values,” he added.
After Joe Biden was sworn in as the new American president, Nausėda said he hoped that Washington would include the Baltic states among its foreign policy priorities.
“I hope that the priority of cooperation with the Baltic countries will be high enough in the hierarchy of his goals,” the Lithuanian president said.
Nausėda also expressed hope that Biden will open “a new page in US relations with Europe”, including Lithuania “given that President Biden is quite aware about the problems of the region”.
Democrat Joe Biden was sworn in as 46th president of the United States on Wednesday.
