A record number of new coronavirus cases, 311, were diagnosed in Lithuania over Tuesday, and two more people have died from the virus, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday morning.
“There are very many family clusters, they are very widely spread. People don't remember or can't say where they could have caught the infection,” Austina Vžesniauskaitė of the National Public Health Centre (NVSC) told LRT RADIO.
Many new cases are also linked to outbreaks at schools and healthcare institutions, according to the NVSC.
Most of the new cases, 101, were reported in Kaunas County, while Vilnius County accounted for 68 infections.
In 96 cases, public health officials could not trace the source of the infection.
A total of 8,239 Covid-19 infections have been reported in Lithuania so far. There are 4,483 active cases and 3,599 people have recovered.
The country's hospitals are currently treating 245 people with Covid-19, 21 of them are in intensive care, according to the Health Ministry.
The virus has killed a total of 120 people in Lithuania, while 37 more coronavirus-infected people have died of other causes.
