Lithuania is ready to work with the new government of Poland and local problems should not overshadow strategic bilateral projects, says Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.

Lithuania is ready to work with the new government of Poland and local problems should not overshadow strategic bilateral projects, says Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.

"We have always said it and repeat it once again that we are ready to work with any government of our neighbour. All the more so that our national and state interests overlap in many areas. Moreover, we have reached specific achievements in very concrete fields, such as electricity bridges, gas links and funding, strategic projects, and certain transport projects," the minister said in a telephone interview from Rome to the radio Žinių Radijas on Thursday morning.

Linkevičius particularly highlighted the security situation where the Baltic states and Poland cooperate very closely.

The foreign minister also said that in early November he is planning a visit to Poland where he will meet with the new government - Beata Szydlo, who has been proposed to the prime minister's post, Witold Waszczykowski, who is a candidate to the foreign minister's seat, and other politicians.
