BNS 2020.05.19 10:00

The flu season ended in Lithuania last week, even though the flu and acute upper respiratory tract infection (URI) incidence rate slightly increased, the National Public Health Centre said on Monday.

The rate edged up to 8.1 per population of 10,000 last week, from 7.8 a week ago.

The centre said no people had been treated for flu in Lithuanian hospitals over the past three weeks.

This year's flu season reached its peak at 85.4 infections per 10,000 people on February 3–9.

Each year, seasonal flu affects between 40,000 and 60,000 people in Lithuania. Children are more likely to get infected.

There are fatalities almost every season. The centre said 11 people had died from the flu and related complications since last October.
