Coronavirus: 3 new deaths, murdered man near Vilnius confirmed infected

The Lithuanian Health Ministry confirmed 11 cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday morning, bringing the country's total count to 1,449. Three new deaths related to Covid-19 were reported on Monday.

Rolanda Lingienė, of the National Public Healht Centre, announced about two coronavirus-related deaths in Klaipėda on Monday afternoon.

One more death was confirmed later. A man in his 70s passed away in Kaunas Clinical Hospital last Saturday and was diagnosed with Covid-19 post mortem, according to the National Public Healht Centre.

At the moment, 129 Covid-19 patients are treated in the country's hospitals, according to Lingienė. Sixteen require intensive care and six require lung ventilators. Twenty-five patients need oxygen therapy.

“The epidemic curve has been flattening lately, with fewer cases confirmed every day,” Lingienė said during a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Many of the new cases confirmed in the country are symptom-less, she added.

In all, 44 people have died of the virus in the country, and 474 have been confirmed to have recovered.

A total of 106,775 tests for Covid-19 have been carried out, including 2,287 on Sunday. The backlog of untested samples stood at 63.

Meanwhile, 12 cases were confirmed on Sunday, and 16 on Saturday.

Murder near Naujoji Vilnia

A person murdered near the country’s capital and the town of Naujoji Vilnia on Thursday was confirmed infected with Covid-19, the police told Delfi.lt.

The accused perpetrator was tested for the virus on Saturday, but the test came back negative.

Ramūnas Matonis, the police spokesman, said all people who worked at the crime scene will be tested for the virus too.

According to BNS, the body of the victim was found on Thursday night with two stabwounds. The deceased man was born in 1960. The accused, born in 1980, was arrested, the police said.
