Coronavirus: 37 new infections in Lithuania

Thirty-seven coronavirus cases were confirmed in Lithuania over Wednesday, the country's Health Ministry said.

However, nine of them are people who had been diagnosed with Covid-19 previously and tested positive again, according to Giedrius Surplys, an adviser to Lithuania's prime minister.

This brings the total infection count to 1,128. Of them, 178 people have been confirmed to have recovered.

133 patients in hospitals

At the moment, 133 coronavirus patients are being treated in hospitals in Lithuania, the country's Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga said on Thursday.

“Speaking of patients who need hospital treatment, we have 133 of them, including 14 people in intensive care units. And nine of the 14 are on ventilators,” he told a press conference.

“Another 31 patients are not in intensive care, but they need oxygen therapy,” the minister said.

Lithuania reported one Covid-19 death on Wednesday. In all, 30 people have died after being infected with the coronavirus.

The ministry said that 3,860 people were tested for the disease on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the epidemic, Lithuania has carried out 48,537 tests.
