Lithuanian athlete tests positive for Covid-19 after returning from Turkey

A Lithuanian track and field athlete has been diagnosed with Covid-19, the Athletic Federation of Lithuania has confirmed.

“The infection appears to be mild; symptoms have developed,” Eimantas Skrabulis, the federation's president, told BNS on Monday.

He gave no further details.

Fourteen Lithuanian track and field athletes returned from a training camp in Turkey in late March.

All of them, including high jumper Airinė Palšytė, triple jumper Diana Zagainova and javelin thrower Liveta Jasiūnaitė, were placed in isolation at a hotel upon their return and have already been released home, according to Skrabulis.

Over 1,000 coronavirus cases have been registered in Lithuania so far. Twenty-four people have died of the virus and over 100 have been confirmed to have recovered.
