Lithuanian MP Vytautas Bakas claimed the information he provided on alleged unlawful actions by a country’s state security institution were classified by the authorities.
"I provided information that was publicly available, and now it's classified, so the fact speaks for itself," Bakas told reporters on Wednesday.

He said the information he received last year revealed interference by one of the country’s state security institutions into the private lives of citizens, unlawful influence on elections and the violation of high-ranking officials' neutrality.
Bakas also said the information included evidence of alleged corruption during elections.
The MP was scarce on the details, citing the law on the protection of whisteblowers.
"I believe these actions contained and still contain elements of an offence," he said.
Bakas said he received the information "from people who did not want to serve” those part of the alleged corruption.
Lithuanian president calls on MP not to escalate the situation
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said he discussed the situation with the heads of the Special Investigation Service (STT) and the Prosecutor General's Office and is convinced "there was definitely no offence".
"There's no need to exacerbate the situation," Nausėda told reporters on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Board of the Lithuanian Seimas decided there's no basis to launch a parliamentary investigation into Bakas' claims.
The board made the unanimous decision taking into account the parliamentary committee on security and defence, which refuted claims by MP Bakas earlier this week.
The president said the situation cannot be discussed in public.
