The Lithuanian parliament will not continue investigating claims of unlawful interference in politics by the country's intelligence services, the parliamentary committee on security and defence said on Tuesday.
MP Vytautas Bakas and the former chairman of the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defence (NSGK) claimed he received information on “alleged unlawful influence on the country's internal political processes” by a state security body.

The politician said he turned to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Special Investigation Service. but was told on January 29 that a pre-trial investigation would not be launched. He then turned to the parliament last week calling for an investigation.
Dainius Gaižauskas, the current head of NSGK, said on Tuesday the information provided by Bakas was checked by the Special Investigation Service and the Prosecutor General's Office.
"Based on the information we received, there was most probably no crime, no interest, no order," the NSGK chairman told reporters after the committee's meeting that was closed to the public.
Bakas' report appeared to be "subjective", according to Gaižauskas.
The Prosecutor General's Office and the Special Investigation Service refused to comment on Bakas' claims.
The MP did reveal which institution was involved, nor what laws may have been violated.
