Polish PM cancels private visit to Lithuania

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has cancelled his private visit to Lithuania, planned on Friday, the spokesman for Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has confirmed.

“The visit has been canceled due to busy agenda and important votes in the country's parliament,” Tomas Beržinskas told BNS.

The Polish prime minister last visited Lithuania in late November 2019 to attend the reburial ceremony of the 1863 January Uprising commanders.

Morawiecki was to join a meeting between Skvernelis and Estonian Jüri Ratas in Kaunas, Lithuania's second-biggest city.

During the working lunch, they are to discuss the upcoming meeting of the Baltic prime ministers in Tallinn on February 7, the Rail Baltica railway project, plans to synchronise the Baltic power networks with continental Europe. Skvernelis will also bring up the Astravyets nuclear power plant in Belarus that Lithuania regards as hazardous.

The two prime minister will also watch a EuroLeague game between Žalgiris Kaunas and Alba Berlin.
