A lot can be gleaned about a year from people's internet search history and, in 2019, Lithuanians were preoccupied with elections, music and hit TV series, according to Google's report about this year's most trending searches.
Vytautas Kubilius, the head of Google for the Baltic states, says the most googled phrases in Lithuania reflected local events: elections, presidential candidates, Lithuanian performers and domestic events.
“Granted, Lithuanians did not stray far from global Google search trends either. For instance, they were interested in one of the world's most-listened performers Billie Eilish and cinema's most colourful bad guys Joker, [as well as] the climate activist Greta Thunberg and were [also] eagerly awaiting the final season of Game of Thrones,” Kubilius said in a press release.
Every year, Google presents a report on the past year's most trending search phrases. The study covers over 70 countries, including Lithuania.
The list excludes the search phrases that were trending in the previous year to have a better sense of what was particular about 2019.
