Vilnius University to close temporarily in protest over low pay

Vilnius University (VU) said on Tuesday it will shut down for two days later this week in protest over low salaries. 

VU spokesman Ervinas Spūdys confirmed to BNS that the university's staff will have two paid days off work on Thursday and Friday.

"Since the government fails to deliver on its promises to allocate additional funds to increase the salaries for lecturers, researchers and non-academic staff, and fails to review the size of incentive scholarships for students from January 1, VU will temporarily suspend its activities," he said.
