Jonas Vytautas Žukas, Lithuania's former chief of defence and the chief adviser to President Gitanas Nausėda on national security, was involved in a car accident on Monday morning, the police has confirmed to BNS. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for tests.
The delfi.lt has reported that the accident took place near Vilnius when Žukas' Subaru collided with an Audi.
Ramūnas Matonis, a spokesman for the police, told BNS that the accident happened when the Audi driver entered oncoming traffic.
Žukas “is conscious and feels fine,” Antanas Bubnelis, spokesman for the president, told BNS.
“Žukas has been released from hospital. According to initial tests, he sustained minor injuries and will have to undergo treatment at home for several days,” Bubnelis added.
Žukas was Lithuania's chief of defence before joining the president's team last summer.
