Former Georgian Ambassador to Lithuania Khatuna Salukvadze has left Vilnius with unpaid rent arrears, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports. A court has ordered her to pay the debt with interest.

Salukvadze does not recognize the court ruling which states that she failed to meet her commitment to the landlord.

The former ambassador signed a fixed-term rent agreement for a luxurious apartment in central Vilnius with Manuel Ruiz Garcia in September 2016 and committed to live in the apartment until September 21, 2018. The monthly rent was 3,050 euros.

When the contract expired, the ambassador did not renew it and refused to let the owner in. Salukvadze and her family left the apartment in April this year when her ambassadorial term expired.

In late July, the court satisfied the lawsuit and ordered Salukvadze to pay the debt, interest and litigation costs. However, the diplomat has not paid up, Lietuvos Rytas reports.

Salukvadze denies she is in arrears and says there was no trial or final ruling, even though notifications have been sent to her and to Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
