The Lithuanian Olympic swimming champion Rūta Meilutytė has joined the team of advisers to Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.
She will advise the mayor of Lithuania's second-biggest city on sports, sports infrastructure development and healthy lifestyle, the municipality said on Monday.
“I hope that my experience will be helpful to the Kaunas city team in solving various issues of the city's sports infrastructure and healthy lifestyle,” Meilutytė was quoted in the press release.
The city is planning to to build a water sports centre.
Meilutytė announced she was ending her professional sport career last May.
The swimmer won a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics at the age of fifteen. She has also scooped 18 medals, including 12 gold and six silver, at world and European championships.
