Lithuania has established diplomatic relations with the Marshall Islands in the Pacific during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and John M. Silk, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Marshall Islands, signed a Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations during the summit, according to Lithuanian MFA press release.
"The foreign ministers discussed climate change and priorities to tackle climate change, as well as opportunities for bilateral political and economic cooperation," it said.
The Marshall Islands is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change in the Pacific, the ministry noted.
It is the 187th state Lithuania has established diplomatic relations with.
