The Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance (LLRA-KŠS) says it wants to see MP Jaroslav Narkevič in the post of transport and communications minister and MP Rita Tamašunienė as minister of the interior.
The party received the two Cabinet portfolios in line with a coalition agreement signed with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, the Social Democratic Labour Party and the Order and Justice party in early July.
Narkevič had been considered as a candidate to head the Ministry of the Interior, and former vice minister of transport Vladislav Kondratovič had been named as a candidate for transport and communications minister. But the LLRA-KŠS said the change came in response to “President Gitanas Nausėda's comments” and wishes for more gender balance.
Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis will not comment on these candidates until he submits the whole Cabinet to the president, according to the prime minister's spokesman Tomas Beržinskas. He plans to do it on Wednesday.
“Tomorrow, the prime minister will submit the Cabinet list to the president and then he will reveal the names and comment on his motives,” Beržinskas said.
Under the new coalition agreement, the ruling parties have also agreed to replace Agriculture Minister Giedrius Surplys. The Social Democratic Labour Party has already proposed MP Andrius Palionis for the position.
It remains to be seen whether all ministers will be replaced at once. The government would have to face a parliamentary confidence vote if more than half of the Cabinet changed.
