The European Social Fund Agency has started distributing food aid to poor residents in Lithuania for a fourth year running.
Products are being delivered to municipal agencies on Monday. The aid packages will include 10 products, among them grains, oil, soup and oat biscuits with chocolate pieces.
According to the ESFA, over 177,000 people are expected to receive food aid in August, with over 1,350 tons of food to be distributed. It will be delivered to all the 60 municipalities in Lithuania by August 19.
“The amount of products is very big and we need to ensure proper storage conditions, so delivering the food to over 6,000 distribution locations will follow a schedule, as products will reach specific distribution points at different times,” the ESFA said.
Those eligible to receive food and personal care products include people whose average monthly income is below 183 euros.
Twenty-four million euros have been allocated from the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) to buy food and personal care products for 2019-2020.
