Media watchdog to unblock Sputnik's Lithuanian website

BNS 2019.07.29 17:20

The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission, LRTK, will unblock the Lithuanian website of the Russian news agency Sputnik which was sanctioned earlier this month over copyright infringement.

Users will be able to access the website by Thursday, once it removes unauthorised copyright-protected content, the media watchdog said on Monday.

The law requires restoring access to a blocked Internet domain within five working days after the copyright infringement is eliminated and LRTK is notified about that.

According to the commission, Sputnik published articles from LRT on its websites without the Lithuanian public broadcaster's permission.

LRTK decided to block Sputniknews.lt on July 10. The decision took effect after the measure was authorized by the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court on July 12.

LRT has been certified according to the Journalism Trust Initiative Programme
