Lithuania's port city Klaipėda expects a record cruise ship season next year, according to the port authorities.

At least 68 ships have already registered to dock at Klaipėda next year, three more than the previous record in 2007.

"Next year's cruise season will be exceptional," Kristina Gontier, international relations and protocol manager at the port authority, said in a press release.

In 2019, Klaipėda expects 51 cruise ships, bringing in around 80,000 tourists. So far, 30 ships have come to Klaipėda this year, bringing 41,700 tourists to Lithuania's third largest city.

Around 400 cruise ships are estimated to be currently travelling the world, and the number of passengers is expected to reach around 30 million this year, including around 5 million in the Baltic sea region, or 16 percent of the global market.
