Lithuanian Government and trade unions have on Wednesday signed a nation-wide collective agreement for 2020, involving a "historic" number of trade unions, according to Social Security and Labour Minister Linas Kukuraitis.

"It's a historic moment," as there has never been a "national collective agreement with 15 trade unions, covering practically the whole public sector," Kukuraitis told journalists.

During the signing, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said the "agreement shows that the path of dialogue and compromise" gives results.

The agreement stipulates an increase in the pay grades for politicians, officials, judges, state officials, and employees of budgetary establishments from 173 to 176 euros. That will need additional 60 million euros from the state budget.

Also under the agreement, members of the trade unions will get additional guarantees on paid vacation days.

The trade unions that signed the agreement have 32,500 members whose wages are calculated using the pay grade system, which multiplies the basic pay (176 euros as of 2020) based on experience and the type of job.
