Lithuanian ruling party leader expects to sign coalition deal Thursday

Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS), expects to sign a four-party government coalition agreement on Thursday, saying they are “very close” to a deal.

“It may be signed today. I'm not ruling this out. The process is moving forward. I'll be able to give you a concrete answer at around 11 (a.m.) to noon,” Karbauskis told journalists.

“We're very close,” he added.

Karbauskis did not comment on the likely distribution of posts in the Seimas and the government among the four parties, which are the LVŽS, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Labor Party (LSDDP), the Order and Justice party and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance (LLRA-KŠS).

The coalition would hold 76 seats in the 141-member Seimas.
