Schools in Lithuania can cancel classes for the remainder of June due to the ongoing hot weather, Education Minister Algirdas Monkevičius says.

"The weather forecast for the upcoming two weeks is not favorable. We see that it's nor productive to have classes, but schools should not close doors for schoolchildren," Monkevičius said.

In his words, schools should instead provide creative activities for children until the end of the academic year on June 21.

The minister said he will present schools with recommendations taking into account the recent weather conditions and the opinion of parents, teachers and heads of schools.
