Lithuanian Speaker of the Parliament met the US Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, who concluded his three-day visit with a promise of 'committed support to Lithuanian people in their ongoing struggle with some of neighbours'.

On his third day in Lithuania John Boehner, accompanied by delegation of seven members of the Congress, visited Lithuanian Parliament Seimas.

He also visited historical Parliamentary building and symbolic barricades left near the building after the January 1991 events when Soviets tried to overthrow the Lithuanian government that has just declared the country’s independence.

Head of State at the time, Vytautas Landsbergis, shared his experience with Boehner.

On his first day of visit on Saturday, Boehner met Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and discussed regional security issues: situation in Ukraine, military and economic co-operation between US and Lithuania.

Lithuania welcomed the US decision to respond to its request and to station hundreds of rotation soldiers and military equipment after annexation of Crimea.

As part of his visit to Lithuania, Boehner was also scheduled to meet with US troops and visit the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal that broke energetic dependence from Russia.
