8-hour Ryanair flight delay leaves passengers stranded at Vilnius Airport

Ryanair's Vilnius-Venice flight failed to take off from the Lithuanian capital's airport on Thursday morning because of a crew shortage.

The 7:00 flight to Treviso Airport was delayed for eight hours.

Tadas Vasiliauskas, spokesman for Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), the operator of Vilnius Airport, said the delay was due to crew shortages.

Ireland's budget carrier Ryanair warned passengers several months ago that air traffic control strikes and staff shortages might cause more delays and cancellations during the summer season.

Ryanair later said that the delay was due to “crew illness”.

“Customers were provided with two sets of refreshment vouchers and the flight is due to depart at 14:45 local time. Ryanair sincerely apologized to all customers affected by this delay,” the company said in a statement to BNS.
